The Winter Classic has come and gone. The greatest event in St. Louis Blues history went off without a hitch and memories were made over a three-day span covering 2016 and 2017. In many ways, there will be a hangover for players and fans, alike. Some will want to recapture this experience. Others will just want to savor the memories of seeing their favorite Blues players, old and new, donning “the Note” in the magical setting of Busch Stadium. Is there a way to keep the memory of this once-in-a-lifetime event alive throughout the year? YES!
The St. Louis Blues hit a home run with the “Winter Classic” uniforms. It is such a clean, simple, gorgeous uniform. Whereas the Chicago Blackhawks add a tweak here and there to their “Winter Classic” uniforms (hard to do any differently when you seem to be in the game every year), the Blues went back to basics and essentially showed the fans that these throwbacks need to be part of a wardrobe rotation.
“It’s a great look”, said Alex Pietrangelo to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch back in November. “I think a lot of us like the look of it, and I think the fans will too. It’ll be a good seller. I know I want a few jerseys.” He is not alone. The new jerseys were scattered throughout Busch Stadium on Monday. Dare I say, there were more “Winter Classic” jerseys being worn than any other jersey in Blues history.
Now, I am not saying the Blues need to get rid of their current look, or their third jersey (where has that been?), or change the color scheme to the more eye-pleasing powder blue and gold. I am saying it would be nice to walk into Scottrade Center on a Saturday night and see the Blues donning the best looking uniform in the history of the franchise. It does not have to be every night.
Just a thought.
